DOCTOR WHO
Immortals, Eternals, Gods and Deities
| Overview |
The Celestial Toymaker, also known as the Crystal Guardian, is a powerful and enigmatic entity within the Doctor Who universe. Introduced in the 1966 serial "The Celestial Toymaker," he is portrayed as an immortal being with the ability to create entire universes and manipulate reality within his domain, the Toyroom. The Toymaker delights in trapping sentient beings in elaborate games, often rigged in his favour, with their freedom or existence at stake. He has appeared in various Doctor Who media, including television serials and audio dramas produced by Big Finish Productions. Despite his appearances, his origins and true nature remain shrouded in mystery, with some accounts suggesting he may be a Great Old One or even a former Timelord.
Over time, the Toymaker has manifested in many different forms, including the face that appeared during the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary special, "The Giggle", and the Infinite Toymaker, a version of the character that has appeared to challenge the Doctor across countless universes. Regardless of his origin, the Toymaker embodies themes of manipulation, control, and the blurring of innocence with malevolence within the Doctor Who mythos.
